If you’re overwhelmed with all the information on weight loss and you don’t know where to start, I have listed down a few simple tips to help you get started on your journey to losing weight right away without spending any money.
Always start with a consultation with your family Doctor.
Before you start any weight loss program, product or nutrition program to lose weight, it’s always a good thing to consult your family doctor first. The first thing you should see if it is safe for you to lose weight or if it is even necessary for you to lose weight. Talk to your doctor about your plans and come up with a plan if the doctor advice's you to do so.
Always have your Reason “Why do you want to lose weight”
Your reason as to “Why do you want to lose weight” is going to be your biggest motivators on the days that you just don’t want to follow your diet or program to lose weight. Make sure your reason to lose weight is big and important enough to you so as to make sure you will take positive steps. It might also be a good idea to write it down in a reminder note so that it is the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning every day.
It’s better to do something about it than doing nothing
Make a plan of what steps you’re going to take to lose weight and write it down, so that you’ll automatically start taking some action towards your weight loss goals. Just thinking about it, or conceptualizing about it will not get you anywhere. So plan definite action steps, set aside a time so that you consciously do whatever you have planned and it’s always best to start first thing when you wake up in the morning. If you decide to go to the gym, take actions to research and join a good gym, plan the clothes that you’re going to wear, the exercise routine that you’re going to do, the diet you’re going to be on etc. The point I’m trying to make is to plan everything in detail.
Try to make small changes first, rather than a lot of drastic ones
Most people fail because they try to achieve their weight loss goals by making a lot of drastic changes all at once, it’s a lot easier to make a few small changes first, letting your body adapt to it first and its more likely that you will stick to your plan. As you make good progress you can then add a few more healthy habits along the way. Ideally you would want to add just one positive healthy habit a month.
Be easy on yourself and make sure you give yourself time to lose weight
Although would might like to believe so, it’s not practical to lose weight in a day or a week. Some type of diets may help you lose weight fast, but most often it would not help you to lose your weight permanently or would give you any sort of long term happiness. Always remember losing weight permanently is more of a journey where you stack one good habit over another and that will take some time.
Research and select a good weight loss program that would suit your lifestyle
Look around and choose a weight loss program that looks realistic to you and something that will fit into your lifestyle. Choose a weight loss program which is more balanced and holistic that would educate you about weight loss and offers you regular and on-going advice and support. Make sure that the program has some sort of support group or forum where likeminded people like you can discuss and educate each other about different eating habits and exercise routines. Always check for positive reviews about the weight loss program before you commit to join them.
While setting your weight loss goals, ensure that your expectation are realistic
If you have unrealistic expectations, such as trying to lose a stone in two weeks, you will end up feeling frustrated, unmotivated and you will end up quitting because you won’t see any results as you’ve wanted too. So it’s always a good option to have goals that realistic and you know you can achieve. If fact you should encourage yourself or reward yourself for any positive progress that you have made along the way.
Keep motivating yourself to reach your goals and don’t give up
Even though you might come across obstacles on your journey to losing weight the secret here is to never give up. Sure you will have days when you can’t get into your routine or your program but make sure you get right back to doing your program as soon as you get a chance to do so. Studies have shown that it is relatively easier to re-start a habit once you have already gone through the pains of starting them. Be persistent and don’t go back to your old habits even though your body might want you to do so. Some people think that weight loss or having a healthy lifestyle is a short term process but on the contrary it’s a life time journey.
